FRANK GEHRY

Gehry Residence, Santa Monica, CA, 1978. Tim Street-Porter/ESTO.
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT, 2000

Frank O. Gehry (American, born Canada, 1929) continues to produce a great body of architectural work, and experiments with materials and forms to create what his 1989 Pritzker Prize citation called “a highly refined, sophisticated, and adventurous aesthetic.” His buildings command attention with their dynamic, complex juxtapositions of shape, surface, and appearance. Gehry’s celebrated buildings, such as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, have brought international attention to the commissioning institutions.
