Michael Sorkin

Michael Sorkin has been a singular voice in exploring the social, formal, and environmental character of the city as an academic, writer, critic, and designer. The author of more than fifteen books on topics such as urban planning, Sorkin argues for the inextricable connection between design and social engagement. He was the architecture critic for the Village Voice from 1979 to 1989. He currently serves as Principal of Michael Sorkin Studio in New York; Director of the Graduate Urban Design Program at Architecture at the City College of New York; and President of Terreform, a nonprofit research and advocacy practice working on issues of urbanism and sustainability.
