Design for an Overdoor Decoration with Trophies in the Lunette and Winged Serpents and Dolphins in Spandrels for Main Salon of Villa Albani, Rome, n.d.

In 1746, Cardinal Alessandro Albani commissioned from the architect Carlo Marchionni a villa outside Rome, for which Piranesi carried out a number of works. This drawing shows a lunette featuring an imperial Roman marble relief with military trophies used as overdoors in the principal reception room, the Gallery of Parnassus.
