design for a wall panel in the rococo style, ca. 1744–45

Piranesi’s biographer, the architect J.-G. Legrand, mentioned the young artist’s unsuccessful attempts to establish a career decorating Venetian palaces. This design for a rococo wall frame, probably to be executed in stucco, is one of the few surviving drawings to record his early work as an interior designer.
